Summary: The Rev. Billy Graham at age 95 recently preached his "last sermon." Fittingly, it was about the cross of Jesus Christ. Permit me to share some reflections on Jesus' crucifixion from a sermon I preached in Alaska about the timeless value of the cross. The preaching of the cross doesn’t deny sin. It confronts it squarely. Sin makes God angry. It makes us God’s enemies. It voids us of any spiritual power. The preaching of the cross faces these bitter truths and proclaims God’s wisdom and God’s power. His wisdom, which the world thinks is folly, is the only solution to our deepest needs.

The combination of preaching the Bible by the power of the Spirit is what gives preaching the most power. Paul describes the Word of God as “the sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians ). The Spirit uses the Word like a sword to impact the hearts of listeners, which is exactly what we observe in the apostles’ preaching ministry. 5. The Cross: The Wisdom and Power of God Pastor E. 1 Corinthians THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS. Intro: We are living in a day when the message of the church is es, and even whole denominations, are moving away from the old message of salvation through the blood of Jesus, and are moving toward a message of salvation through social activism and good works.

Therefore, the power of God in in which our faith should rest is the divine power unleashed by the death of Christ to save sinners, to justify the ungodly.

When Jesus was at his weakest in the agony of the cross, God's power was at its strongest, lifting the infinite weight of sin and condemnation off the backs of all who would believe on him.

It is instead, the power of God and the wisdom of God. It is the power of God because through the cross God forever destroyed the kingdom of Satan and broke the grip of sin. This demonstration of love on our behalf should compel us to do many things. And that greater power is the power of the cross. That’s what our passage in Colossians is all about this morning: the power of the cross to free you from sin, from the law and from Satan.

Freed from sin (a) – by receiving new life in Christ. So first, let’s talk about the power of the cross to free you from sin. Second, in the cross we see the strongest proof of God’s hatred of sin.
